Rock climbing has seen a boost in popularity over the past several years, and now the Northeast Kingdom is on the map as a reputable rock climbing destination. Unlike more crowded climbing destinations, the Northeast Kingdom is known for its peaceful forests, dramatic cliffs, and low foot traffic; it is not uncommon for you to have the crags all to yourself.
Places to Rock Climb in the NEK:
- Black Mountain: Many consider this one of the best places for crack climbing in the Northeast. This is Vermont’s most remote cliff located within Kingdom Heritage Lands.
- Wheeler Mountain: A massive granite dome with friction slab climbs that rises above Lake Willoughby.
CRAG-VT is a nonprofit organization that secures access to climbing resources around the state.
