During the fall season, head to this orchard’s pumpkin stand to choose a few for the Halloween season. The stand is open from August 18 to November 1, 2024. Since 40 varieties of apples are grown here, take a look at Burtt Apple Orchard’s fruit-picking schedule too.

Picking fruit at its optimum flavor, there’s nothing quite like it. Zestar find themselves in that category this week. Coupled with sweet ripeness, Zestar put off a strong fruity aroma that wafts about the trees.

The orchard is transitioning from summer varietals to fall over the next week; McIntosh being the first of the fall varieties. And it’s feeling like fall with some cool weather these last few days.

Sam Mazza Farm Market

The Sam Mazza Family farmed and operated a General Store over on Mallets Bay Avenue which opened for business in 1935 selling groceries, vegetables, and a real meat counter operated by Sam Mazza, Sr. who was also the butcher. In 1969 Sam Jr. and his wife Annette started their own farm on property adjacent to his father’s land fronting on Lavigne Road at the present site of the Farm Market and Greenhouses. At that time the farm had a 450 foot chicken house and raised vegetables for sale on a wholesale basis. Due to health reasons the poultry business was discontinued in 1988 and the first small greenhouse and retail store opened. The in-house, full service Bakery was added in 1992 and Frank Peters was hired on as the baker and has been firing up the ovens on a daily basis ever since.

You’ll find pumpkins galore and so much more when you visit this unique farm market. Check out Sam Mazza Farm Market for its schedule of seasonal evenings, including the annual giant pumpkin weigh-in on September 21, 2024!

Wellwood Orchards, Inc. has been owned and operated by Roy Mark since 1981.  Roy has 4 daughters (Aggie, Linda, Patty and Sherry) that are owners of the corporation as well. When Roy bought Wellwood Orchards in 1981 it was in need of a lifetime of hard work. It was a producing farm but mainly a wholesale business with a small retail store.
Over the years of sweat equity and with the integration of new crops such as strawberries, blueberries and raspberries, Roy realized the apple orchard may be better suited as a Pick Your Own (PYO) venue. He took the gamble and pruned all the trees down to ground picking height and put the ladders away for the last time.

The views from the orchard are spectacular and the experience is always memorable. You have until November 1st to grab your pumpkin for the fall season when you plan a visit to Wellwood Orchards. There’s also a Harvest Festival here on August 31, 2024!
